Traditionally, the celebration began with commemorative events. Wreaths and flowers were laid at the Eternal Flame in the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex and the obelisk on Svoboda Square in gratitude to the generation of winners. The heads of the region and the city, members of the Belarusian parliament, representatives of diplomatic missions, law enforcement agencies, public organizations, clergy, residents and guests of the city took part in the solemn ceremonies. Employees and students of the Brest State Technical University, headed by Rector Sergei Antonovich Kasperovich, also took part in the events.
With a moment of silence, the participants honored the memory of those who defended the freedom and independence of the Motherland at the expense of their lives. Paying tribute to their predecessors, soldiers of the Brest garrison marched on the Ceremonial Square of the Brest Fortress.
