Brest State Technical University became the meeting place for the outstanding Argentine composer, conductor and pianist Martin Palmeri and the Belaya Vezha chorus. The arrival of the world-famous composer is a unique event for our university. Martin Palmeri has gained worldwide fame for his works in the field of choral music, but his greatest popularity was brought to him by «Misa a Buenos Aires», known as «Misatango».
The assembly hall of BrSTU became a platform for fruitful mutual integration of the ideas of composer Martin Palmeri and the talents of the folk academic chorus “Belaya Vezha”. During the meeting, the maestro shared facts from his biography and creative activity, work experience, and discussed the subtleties of performing skills with the chorus participants.
In 2019, our choral group was honored to perform several parts of the work “Misatango” in the “Choral Legends” project. It is worth noting that the traditional large-scale project “Choral Legends”, aimed at popularizing choral art and the creative rapprochement of choristers of different generations, is organized on the initiative of the Belarusian Association of Choral Conductors and personally by the chief conductor of the State Chamber Orchestra of the Republic of Belarus Evgeniy Bushkov. Martin Palmieri is traditionally a participant in this grand choral event.
The composer presented fragments of the work “Misatango” performed by our chorus on the screen, plunging into pleasant memories together with the participants of the creative meeting.
The most important moment of the meeting was the master class conducted by the maestro himself. The chorus members gained valuable experience working with a recognized musician, acquired new knowledge in the field of interpretation of a choral work and the nuances of composer’s thinking. This will undoubtedly enrich their future musical careers. Our chorus performed Christmas works for the composer.
The team of the folk academic chorus “Belaya Vezha” expresses gratitude to Martin Palmeri for his invaluable experience and contribution to the development of musical art among the youth of Brest State Technical University.
