A round table dedicated to the International Day against Drug Addiction and Drug Trafficking was held at Brest State Technical University.
The meeting was opened by police captain, senior commissioner for drug control and combating human trafficking Pavel Viktorovich Mikhalyuk. He told students about the dangers of narcotic substances, including synthetic drugs, and about the addictions that arise as a result of their use, about the main innovations in criminal legislation aimed at preventing and countering new forms of drug trafficking.
Assistant physician Yana Yuryevna Yanuschik spoke to the students and disclosed information about the medical and social consequences of drug addiction, the formation and consequences of drug addiction and its first signs. The senior local inspector of the juvenile affairs inspection of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Moskovsky District Administration of Brest, police major Sergei Petrovich Duboysky, showed students the statistics of those detained for drug trafficking, preventive measures carried out by police officers in educational institutions and social networks.
The Chairman of the Department for Combating Drug Addiction and Alcoholism of the Brest Diocese, Priest Dimitry Akimovich Omelyanets, told the audience about why people start using drugs, drawing on the church’s experience of dealing with addiction as a passion, citing examples from personal experience.
Students were encouraged to take an active civic position in the fight against the spread of drugs, follow a healthy lifestyle and oppose the advertising and distribution of any dangerous substances.
