Belarusian-Uzbek Rectors’ Forum

On October 23, the 1st Forum of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Belarus was held at the Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics. More than 30 Heads of Belarusian and Uzbek universities discussed current issues in the development of higher education systems in the two countries.
The Rector of Brest State Technical University Sergei Antonovich Kasperovich took part in the Forum.
The Forum participants were welcomed by the First Deputy Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Gennadievich Bakhanovich. He noted that successful cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan in the field of education and science lays the foundation for long-term relations between the two countries. “Over the past five years, a regulatory framework has been formed, which currently consists of intergovernmental and interdepartmental agreements, memorandums of cooperation, etc. Currently, more than four hundred direct cooperation agreements have been signed between educational institutions of Belarus and Uzbekistan. Within the framework of the agreements, a number of bilateral scientific and educational projects are being implemented, work is underway to create joint educational programs, and joint faculties are functioning,” noted Alexander Gennadievich.
Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Belarus, Rector of BSUIR Vadim Anatolyevich Bogush indicated that an important area of cooperation could be the humanitarian sphere, where the basis would be the common historical memory of our peoples. Also, the development of human resources, scientific and educational projects can serve as the basis for the development of bilateral cooperation.
Following the results of the forum, a Cooperation Roadmap was signed between the Councils of Rectors of the two countries.
As part of the Forum, more than 20 bilateral agreements on interaction between higher educational institutions of Belarus and Uzbekistan were signed. BrSTU will cooperate with the Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute.
